How to Find the Best Gym in Dublin

Search "best gym in Dublin" and every gym in the city claims to be it. Which is no help, because the answer depends entirely on what you're trying to do.
Better question: best for what.
Best for strength training
Racks, floor space, dumbbells that go heavy in small increments, proper bars and bumper plates. Ignore the wall of resistance machines, it looks impressive and does very little for a barbell programme. The real test is 6pm on a Tuesday. Go and count how many people are waiting.
Best for classes and coaching
The variable is coach-to-member ratio, and it's the one that gets hidden. A class capped at fourteen is a different product to a class of forty. In one, someone spots your third rep and corrects it. In the other, you're following along.
Ask what the cap is before you sign up. A vague answer is the answer.
Best for convenience
How easy a gym is to get to decides how often you'll actually go. The strongest predictor of still training in six months isn't the equipment or the programming, it's whether the gym sits on a route you were already taking.
A brilliant gym twenty-five minutes away loses to a good one that's five.
Best for beginners
The opposite of what gym marketing sells. Not the biggest facility, a smaller room where someone notices you didn't turn up. Set class times beat open-floor access, because the decision of what to do that day is already made for you. That's the decision most people fail at.
Best for HYROX and functional training
A narrower field. You need sleds, ski ergs, rowers, assault bikes, wall balls and the floor space to run a full station, most commercial gyms have two or three of those, not all. And programming that builds toward a race rather than a run of random hard sessions.
How to test one
- Visit at the time you'd actually train, not the quiet hour they offer
- Take the intro offer. Standing in a gym tells you more than reading about it
- Ask what happens in week one. Ask what your first week looks like. A good gym will talk you through an onboarding
Where Perpetua fits
Two locations, Windmill Lane and Lennox Street, both walkable from the city centre. With a third location coming soon.
We're a coaching gym rather than an equipment room. Classes are capped so coaches can coach, and everyone gets onboarding. CrossFit, HYROX, spin classes, rumble boxing class and tread & shred, plus JUSTGYM for anyone running their own programme, and Small Group PT and Personal Training on top.
The only way to know is to stand in it. 3 classes for €33, no contract.
