David Lenart shares his life journey which led him to be Head of Rumble boxing at Perpetua Fitness in Dublin

Welcome back to our passionate community at the Perpetual podcast. In this heartening episode, we're joined by David Lenart, the man spearheading the rumble division at Perpetual Fitness. A charismatic individual, David's life memoir takes us from the rustic charm of Serbia to the bustling streets of Dublin, weaving an inspiring tapestry of struggle, sport, and steadfast determination.

Growing Up Serbian: A Tale of Community and Childhood

"Growing up in Serbia, for me, was the best childhood I could have ever asked for," David begins, reflecting on his early years with warmth.

In a small town of merely 100,000 residents, David’s childhood was marked by safety and solidarity. Groups and communities were not just social constructs but a way of life — a stark contrast to the self-reliant hustle of Dublin life. "You see how everybody is kind of solo," he notes on his Dublin experience, underscoring the individualistic pursuits that tend to isolate us in larger cities.

Community Over Solitude

Life in Serbia was interwoven with the rich fabric of communal bonds, where every day unfurled under the vast, shared sky, and streets echoed with the laughter and play of children. David recalls, "It was always literally, you go to school, you go out, and all day you're on the streets playing, and there is like 20 of us kids all wrestling down on the floor."

But as is often the case, this idyllic setting had its shadows — the struggle with financial stability.
"The biggest struggle was always the money," David admits. "So struggling with money and then coming to this country full of opportunities, I feel really grateful."

The Boxing Revelation: From YouTube to the Ring

David's foray into boxing was not through grand gym doors but via a derelict establishment where the unyielding spirit of youth thrived. With no formal training, they turned to YouTube, absorbing techniques, and exchanging punches amid the ruins.

But David's real boxing journey began in a confrontation that reads straight out of a cinematic script. A teenage David challenged a decorated boxing coach in a nightclub, an impulsive move that led him to the rigors and discipline of the sport. "He was like an older brother you always needed," David says about the coach who molded him, blending respect and technique into his fists.

Dublin: The City of Chances

David’s transition to Dublin, amidst the chaos of COVID and the closure of gyms, speaks volumes of his relentless hustle. Illegal parties, handing out flyers, a grand sales course, defiance unfurled — his tale is not merely about the triumphs but the head winds he weathered.

"I opened up my notebook... 'If you want to make money, you need to go to places where rich people are.'" This pivotal moment manifested itself when David walked into a new boutique gym in Dublin to better his prospects. It was here that his fate took another swift turn as onlookers, intrigued by his solitary boxing session, opened the doors to his coaching career. "Would you consider coaching?" he recalls being asked, his eyes lighting up at the prospect of molding his destiny anew.

Crafting Rumble: Behind the Scenes

A canvas of dedication, tinkering, and vibrant brainstorming sessions is what birthed Rumble. David and a dynamic team commuted to London, took inspirations, and relentlessly refined their concept. "It needs months of trialing," he states, emphasizing the rigorous journey to perfection.

Their prototype was nurtured by inputs from a steadfast cohort and iterations that gradually coalesced into the powerhouse that Rumble is today. "Building it from the ground up," David terms it, noting the commendable ensemble that brought their vision to fruition.

"Collaborative effort forges more than just great ideas — it forges community."

A Year of Rumble: Paving the Future

A year whizzed by, teeming with spirited classes and expanding horizons. Yet, it was a year of learning and self-discovery; David admits to facing burnout from overexertion. His narrative doesn't shy away from the unwavering peaks and the challenging troughs, all of which leads us back to the essence of persistence.

David's story continues as he explores a new boxing-only concept, veering towards traditional pugilism techniques. Keep your eyes peeled, for the rumble in Dublin is poised to amplify.

What Lies Ahead: Rings and Resilience

As we draw the conversation to a close, David shares his upcoming ventures back into competitive boxing. "Fighting on any other sport is a full-time job," he admits, diving into the essence of dedication that combat sports demand.

His vision for the future is clear — to embrace the grind, spar his way back to form, and aim for the national title. "Sky's the limit," he echoes, a mantra that has undoubtedly been the compass of his riveting journey.

So, we leave you with the tale of David Lenart, who moved from Serbia’s cradle to Dublin’s challenges, through the ropes of boxing and into the hearts of those he coaches. A testament that no dream is too distant, and no arena too daunting for a heart that beats with the relentless tempo of a fighter.
